"Even If the Pages of History Turn Yellow": A Scientific Conference Dedicated to the 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory
On April 23, 2025, the republican scientific-practical conference titled "Even If the Pages of History Turn Yellow" dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory in the Second World War concluded its work. The event was organized by Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the State Archive of the city of Almaty. The important event, held in Almaty, saw active participation from historians, archive specialists, university lecturers, and students.
At the opening of the conference, the Dean of the Faculty of History, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Dosbol Suleimenovich Baygunakov, and the Head of the Department of World History, Historiography, and Source Studies, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Professor Ryskeldi Salamatzkyz Myrzabekova, emphasized the importance of the conference.
During the conference, various historical aspects of Kazakhstan's significant contribution to the Great Victory were discussed in depth. The participants presented papers on the documentary significance of foreign archive materials, the role of Kazakh women in the labor front during the war years, research trends in the historiography of the Second World War in Kazakhstan, the formation of the Polish Army in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, the value of Soviet military press as a historical source, photo documents of veterans, and the daily life of Japanese prisoners of war in Kazakhstan.
One of the highlights of the conference was the presentation by Gulbakyt Aytakynkyzy Kurmanjanova, the Chief Custodian of the State Archive of Almaty, who shared new data and documents about the Great Patriotic War. Additionally, within the conference, an interesting report was presented by director-animator, member of the Union of Cinematographers of Kazakhstan, and recipient of the independent "Tarlan" award, Kasym Kayyrgali Ergalievich, on the history and creation of the animated film "Tagdyr."
Among the participants were also the Director of the State Archive of Almaty, Abzal Kabdolbaritovich Botanov, and the senior experts of the archive, Gulzada Orinbasarovna Dakenova and Laila Kasymovna Rakhipova, who enriched the conference with their presentations and opinions.
At the conclusion of the event, a final speech was delivered, and participants exchanged views, agreeing to continue researching and discussing such important historical topics in the future. The "Even If the Pages of History Turn Yellow" conference became a significant step in honoring the history of the Great Victory and fostering historical consciousness among the younger generation.
