New trends in the field of education in terms of STEM and the Sustainable Development Goals

18 april, 2025

On April 17, 2025, as part of the pedagogical practice, a curatorial hour was held for bachelors of the 6B05105-Genetics program on the topic "New trends in the field of education in terms of STEM and the Sustainable Development Goals" by MS student of EP 7M05113-Neuroscience, Ainur Dyussenbayeva, with the participation of curator-adviser A.I. Zhussupova. The use of computer models and simulators (in silico) in scientific research was considered as an example of modern educational approaches. Today, such technologies are widely used in the development of drugs and their testing in virtual clinical trials, in modeling the functioning of biological systems, as well as for modeling the structure of proteins and interactions between them. The curatorial hour was dedicated to outstanding scientific achievements made possible by computer modeling. In particular, brain mapping allows us to understand the complex processes occurring in it, as well as to find the causes of neurodegenerative diseases and mental disorders, which is directly related to the achievement of SDG 3 (Good health and well-being). Open source developments expand opportunities for education and science around the world, contributing to the implementation of SDG 4 (Quality Education). The curatorial hour also touched on the topic of conscious use of artificial intelligence, including ChatGPT, for the purpose of preserving the environment, which directly relates to SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
