Round Table on “The Ecological and Social Significance of Botanical Gardens and Parks in Large Cities”
In honor of Ecologist Day, the UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development held a round table discussion with students on the topic “The Ecological and Social Significance of Botanical Gardens and Parks in Large Cities.”
The event took place in an open discussion format. Participants explored the role of green areas in megacities in maintaining ecological balance, improving public health, and protecting biodiversity.
Special attention was given to students’ practical observations. The participants shared photo and video materials taken during their visit to the Botanical Garden in Almaty, describing the plant diversity, landscaping quality, number of visitors, and the connection between residents and the natural environment.
The round table served not only as a platform for exchanging ideas but also as an important step in fostering environmental awareness and encouraging a mindful approach to urban spaces.
