Closing of the 7th TotalEnergies Summer School for Sustainable Development (TESS): Contribution to Quality Education and Sustainable Development (SDG 4 and SDG 13)

On June 19, 2025, the closing ceremony of the 7th TotalEnergies Summer School for Sustainable Development (TESS) took place at the Al-Farabi Library of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. This international educational initiative was organized in partnership with the Faculty of Physics and Technology and supported by TotalEnergies.
The event was attended by representatives of KazNU, the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications (AUPET), the National Federation of UNESCO Clubs, as well as faculty members and students. The meeting was moderated by Svetlana Peshaya, Vice Dean for Research and International Affairs of the Faculty of Physics and Technology.
Welcoming remarks were given by:

Daniyar Salimbaev, Director of Government and Public Relations at Total;

Thierry Plaisant, General Director of TotalEnergies Renewables Services Kazakhstan;

Kuanish Alipbaev, Vice-Rector for Science at AUPET;

Sabina Akzharova, Vice President for Communication and International Cooperation of the Federation of UNESCO Clubs;
-
Jean-Pierre Cordier, President of the TotalEnergies Professors Association.
During the ceremony, participants were awarded certificates for completing five educational tracks:

“Development Strategy of Large Companies: State Relations – Economy – Sustainability – CSR” – Prof. Jean-Pierre Cordier;
-
“Digital Transformation and Data Science in the Energy Sector” – Prof. Mariana Kobayashi;
-
“Intercultural Management and International Negotiations” – Prof. Dominique Guede;
-
“Climate and Energy Transition” (including a low-carbon development hackathon) – Prof. Christian Gerrit;
-
“Risk Management in the Oil, Gas and Chemical Industries” – Prof. Patrick Simons.
The school was held from June 16 to 19 and engaged more than 100 students. The final event became a symbol of international academic collaboration and interdisciplinary knowledge exchange.
The program held particular significance in the context of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

SDG 4 – Quality Education: providing students with advanced knowledge and practical skills through expert-led lectures;
-
SDG 13 – Climate Action: exploring decarbonization, sustainable energy strategies, and responsible resource management.
The event concluded with a coffee break and networking session, where participants exchanged ideas for future cooperation and expanding academic partnerships.
