“Language is the treasure of the people, the guarantee of unity and the future”

On September 5, 2025, in honor of the Day of Languages of the People of Kazakhstan, an open lecture titled “Language is the treasure of the people, the guarantee of unity and the future” was held with 2nd-year students of the specialty “6B01704 – Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages” at the Faculty of Philology, in the E. Kaidar Auditorium (3-2). The purpose of this event was to promote respect for, preservation, and development of the Kazakh language and the languages of other ethnic groups living in our country. The lecture especially emphasized that language is the mirror of a people’s history, culture, and spiritual identity.
In the first part of the lecture, the social role of language was discussed. Language is not only a means of communication but also the soul and spiritual wealth of the people. As the Kazakh proverb says: “The beginning of art is eloquence.” The aim was to convey the importance of this wisdom to the younger generation and to foster their interest in the art of the spoken word.
The second part addressed the language policy of Kazakhstan. Today, the state language in our country is Kazakh. In addition, the Russian language is officially used. More than 100 ethnic groups live in Kazakhstan, and their languages and cultures are protected by law. This is the main guarantee of peace and harmony in our society.
The third part discussed the influence of language on future generations. It was emphasized that knowledge of the mother tongue is the primary way to preserve national identity. The necessity of knowing several languages in modern society was also explained. In this context, examples were given of the advantages of the country’s trilingual policy: Kazakh as the state language, Russian as the language of interethnic communication, and English as the language of global science and technology. In the concluding part, it was stressed that language is the eternal heritage of the people. Respect for languages is the guarantee of the nation’s unity; therefore, every citizen must know their native language and treat other languages with respect. This lecture enhanced students’ respect for language, helped them feel confident in a multilingual environment, and was also aimed at strengthening young people’s attitudes toward national values.
