Meeting of A*STAR and Nanyang Technological University Delegation with the Faculty of Physics and Technology of KazNU. SDG 9 and SDG 17
On September 19, 2025, the Faculty of Physics and Technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted a meeting with the delegation of Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU).
The event was chaired by the Dean of the Faculty, Nurzada Abdibekovna Beisen, and brought together the faculty leadership, heads of departments, and doctoral students. Welcoming speeches were delivered by representatives of both sides: the Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Technology of KazNU and Professor Andy Hor, Deputy Chief Executive (Research) of A*STAR. The meeting presented the main directions of scientific activity and the objectives of the visit.
Special attention was paid to the development of cooperation in semiconductors, nanotechnology, sustainable development, and future energy. The participants discussed prospects for joint research projects, the expansion of academic mobility, and the strengthening of bilateral relations between KazNU and Singapore’s leading research centers.
Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
-
SDG 9. Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure — development of scientific and technical potential and implementation of advanced technologies within international cooperation.
-
SDG 17. Partnerships for the Goals — strengthening international ties and deepening bilateral collaboration in science and education.
The meeting also highlighted opportunities for young researchers (Early-Career Researchers, up to 7 years post-PhD) to participate in A*STAR research exchange programs. The program offers 3–6 month placements at overseas institutes with full coverage of travel, accommodation, and related expenses.
Such exchanges are expected to enhance the professional growth of young scientists, foster their involvement in global research collaborations, and lead to the development of joint research projects, the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), and the preparation of applications for international research grants.
