International Forum on Sustainable Development Goals in Central Asia: Participation of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University
On September 19, 2025, Almaty hosted the International Forum “Sustainable Development Goals in Central Asia in a Changing World Order”, dedicated to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Central Asia in the context of a rapidly transforming global order.
The forum was organized by the Kazakh-German University (DKU) in cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Alliance of Ruhr Region Universities. Leading academic and political institutions from the region and Europe took part, including the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), Qazaq Green, and other organizations.
The forum brought together representatives of government agencies, leaders of international organizations, and scholars. Notable speakers included the President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Professor Dr. Akhylbek Kurishbayev; Minister of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek (online); representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan; Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany Matthias Kiesler; as well as representatives of leading German universities and research organizations.
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University was represented at the forum by the Director of the Department of Science and Innovation Kuanysh Tastambek, Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Nature Management Aliya Sagyndykovna Aktymbaeva, Head of the UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development Tursynkul Bazarbayeva, along with faculty members, doctoral students, master’s students, and undergraduates.
The forum became an important step toward uniting scientific potential and governance practices for a sustainable future of Central Asia.
