Visit of Students from the Department of Electronics and Astrophysics to the Almaty Museum of Arts. This event contributes to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 4 — “Quality Education”.
On September 18, 2025, as part of extracurricular educational activities, third-year undergraduate and first-year master’s students of the “Physics and Astronomy” program visited the Almaty Museum of Arts during an evening session. The group was accompanied by Nadezhda Weidman, a lecturer at the Department of Electronics and Astrophysics.
The museum was founded by collector and philanthropist Nurlan Smagulov and became the first institution of its kind in Kazakhstan. Opened only recently, it gave our students the opportunity to be among the first to explore its exhibitions.
On the first floor, the students visited the “Ұлы дала” and “Сарыарқа” halls, which featured Almagul Menlibayeva’s retrospective “I Understand Everything” and the exhibition “Қонақтар”. A particularly strong impression was left by the hall dedicated to Richard Serra, showcasing his monumental labyrinth-like installation.
On the second floor, the students became acquainted with the works of international stars of contemporary art — Anselm Kiefer, Bill Viola, and Yayoi Kusama. The vivid and immersive artworks evoked genuine emotions and sparked lively discussions among the students.
The museum’s collection includes more than 700 works, encompassing both the art of 20th-century Kazakh masters and contemporary artists from Kazakhstan, Central Asia, and abroad.
The visit was a significant cultural event for the students: they broadened their horizons, engaged with contemporary artistic expressions, and gained an experience that contributes to shaping a holistic scientific and humanitarian worldview. This event contributes to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 4 — “Quality Education,” aimed at ensuring the comprehensive development of the individual, fostering creative and cultural competencies, and promoting global vision and an interdisciplinary approach to learning among students.
