Modern education requires not only a strong theoretical foundation but also the ability to apply knowledge in practice. In accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 4 — “Quality Education”, the Department of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, and Criminology of the Faculty of Law at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University actively develops a practice-oriented approach to teaching, aimed at forming professional competencies necessary for future legal professionals.

As part of this approach, under the guidance of Senior Lecturer Rysbek Turysbek, a field practical training session in the discipline “Criminalistics” was held at the Special Training Ground “Dolan” for students of the educational program 6B04205 – “Jurisprudence”.

The central theme of the training was ballistics — one of the key areas of criminalistics that studies the patterns of bullet and projectile movement as well as traces formed by the use of firearms. Special attention was paid to the safe handling of weapons, compliance with safety rules, and practical shooting exercises, which allowed students not only to consolidate their theoretical knowledge but also to develop confidence and responsibility when performing practical tasks.

During the session, students learned the basics of conducting ballistic examinations, including determining the direction and distance of a shot, analyzing bullet trajectories, and identifying the type of weapon by its traces. The field training helped students develop observation skills, attentiveness, discipline, and analytical thinking — all essential qualities for future legal experts and criminologists.

According to Senior Lecturer Rysbek Turysbek, “Such training sessions allow students to see how theoretical knowledge is implemented in real professional practice. Ballistics helps not only to understand the mechanisms of a crime but also to reconstruct the sequence of events with scientific precision — an essential element in establishing the truth and ensuring justice.”

The practical training at the Dolan Ground became a vivid example of the effective integration of theory and practice and a clear embodiment of the principles of quality education. Such experiences foster professional thinking, legal culture, and motivation among students to serve the interests of society.

The Faculty of Law of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, following the principles of UN SDG No. 4 “Quality Education”, continues to develop innovative forms of education aimed at training competent, responsible, and highly qualified specialists capable of contributing to the strengthening of the rule of law and the progress of the nation.
