Scientists of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University took part in the 23rd international conference on the exchange of professional personnel, held in Shanghai (China) at the EXPO Center.
The large-scale event was organized by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People's Republic of China and brought together more than 3,500 foreign specialists and scientists from 30 countries, including Nobel laureates and representatives of leading international organizations.
The KazNU delegation included Director of the Department of International Cooperation Esbol Umirzhanov, Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Technology Nurzada Beisen, academicians of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Medeu Abishev and Professor Karlygash Zhumagulova.

At the plenary session, KazNU scientists presented a report on "Small modular reactors for Kazakhstan: opportunities and challenges", emphasizing the importance of international partnership in the development of nuclear energy.
As part of the program, university representatives held meetings with Vice Minister of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People's Republic of China Yu Jiadong, Vice President of Harbin University of Engineering Yu Zhiwen and a number of leading Chinese experts. During the talks, issues of personnel training and joint research in the field of nuclear engineering, digital technologies and artificial intelligence were discussed.

The delegation also visited the Changjiang nuclear power plant on Hainan Island, where they got acquainted with China's best practices in the field of nuclear energy. This facility is one of the key elements of China's green energy transition strategy.
Following the visit, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Harbin Engineering University signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of nuclear engineering, innovative technologies and training of specialists.

The parties agreed to implement joint research projects, academic exchange programs and the creation of digital laboratories. In addition, KazNU and its Chinese partners have initiated the creation of a scientific consortium in the areas of small modular reactors, artificial intelligence, supercomputer research and satellite technologies.
This trip opened a new stage of scientific and technical cooperation between Kazakhstan and China, strengthening KazNU's position in the international research space.
