On October 3, 2025, the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics hosted a screening and subsequent discussion of the documentary film “Eternal You” (2024). The event took place as part of AI Week, a series of meetings and discussions devoted to contemporary developments in artificial intelligence and its role in society. The event was organized by Roza Sabirova, Deputy Dean for Scientific and Innovative Activities and International Relations, and Aigerim Sakhayeva, Deputy Dean for Academic and Educational Affairs of the faculty.

The film explores the concept of “digital immortality” — technologies that can recreate a person’s voice, style of communication, and behavioral characteristics after their death based on messages, photographs, and audio recordings. During the discussion, students and faculty reflected on how such technologies may influence the process of grief and the preservation of memory about loved ones. Ethical and responsibility-related questions were raised, including who should manage a person’s digital legacy, how to prevent emotional manipulation, and where to draw the line between psychological support and artificial substitution of real human experience.

The discussion also addressed the role of society, educational institutions, and the state in regulating rapidly developing AI technologies. Participants emphasized that artificial intelligence is not only a technological tool but also a cultural and social phenomenon that reshapes our understanding of personality, memory, and human relationships, requiring careful and humane consideration.

The event contributed to the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In particular, SDG 4 “Quality Education” was reflected in the development of digital and ethical literacy among students. SDG 9 “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure” was expressed in the critical reflection on the role of innovative technologies in society. SDG 16 “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions” was highlighted through discussions about establishing regulatory and cultural frameworks that support responsible and human-centered use of AI.
