On February 5, 2026, first-year students of the 6B03102 “Cultural Studies” program at the Department of Religious Studies and Cultural Studies, Faculty of Philosophy and Political Science, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, visited the Gabit Musrepov Kazakh State Academic Theatre for Children and Youth and watched the play “Zhusan yisi”.
This cultural event was organized with the aim of broadening students’ professional horizons, fostering a deep understanding of national culture and spiritual values, as well as developing historical awareness and artistic perception through theatre arts. The play artistically depicted the fate of the Kazakh people during the war, the hardships of childhood, longing for the homeland, and the values of humanity.
The cultural and intellectual development of students and their interest in national art aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
-
SDG 4 – Quality Education: learning through culture and the arts, and developing critical thinking;
-
SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities: preserving cultural heritage and promoting cultural values in society;
-
SDG 16 – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions: fostering social harmony through cultural and historical awareness.
The play left a strong impression on the students, enhanced their artistic and aesthetic appreciation, and allowed them to better understand the importance of engaging with cultural heritage through art. After the performance, students shared their thoughts and discussed the themes and ideas presented in the work.
The event was organized by Sergazy Kudaybergenov, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Religious Studies and Cultural Studies.
Such cultural and educational activities contribute to strengthening the professional training of future specialists in cultural studies and increase their interest in national art and theatre culture.
