Successful school practices: leadership and partnership experience

23 february, 2026

On February 23, 2026, within the framework of the OPENSHOOL project, a citywide methodological seminar-workshop for school principals of Almaty (70 participants) was held at SEI “Gymnasium No. 79” in cooperation with GNMCTS. The seminar included the following sessions:
“A Tour of Successful Practices” and
“Management Workshop: How to Build a Successful School.”

The gymnasium principal Tsai R.A. presented a systemic model for the development of a successful school, while deputy principal Kussainova S.D. shared managerial experience on the topic “The Model of the Internal School Quality Control System in the Gymnasium.”

As part of the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 “Quality Education” and SDG 17 “Partnerships for the Goals,” a training session for school leaders was conducted on the topic:
“Emotional Intelligence of a Leader and Tools for Social and Emotional Development (SED, SEL) in School Management.”

The training was delivered by Sadvakassova Z.M., Associate Professor of the Department of General and Applied Psychology at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, and Svetlana Petrova, a 3rd-year student majoring in Psychology.

The focus was on developing a culture of emotional intelligence as a strategic resource of the modern school. Conscious leadership, self-regulation, constructive communication, and conflict prevention contribute to a safe educational environment, strengthen professional interaction, and expand school partnerships with families and the community.

Participants worked in groups, exchanged best practices, received methodological recommendations, and provided feedback based on the outcomes of the seminar.

The event was organized by the Almaty City Department of Education, GNMCTS, and SEI “Gymnasium No. 79.”
We express our gratitude for the professional cooperation and for strengthening the partnership between schools and universities.
