“IQ Battle” Intellectual Game: Issues of Gender Equality and Legal Culture Discussed
At Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the “Sen Sulu” Girls’ Club, established within the “Sunkar” Trade Union of Students and Master’s Degree Candidates, organized an “IQ Battle” intellectual quiz competition. The event was held as part of the implementation of the “Gender Equality” direction outlined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The primary objective of the initiative was to enhance the legal literacy of female students within the framework of an information and awareness campaign, broaden their understanding of women’s rights and opportunities, and promote a principle of zero tolerance toward violence in society. The organizers emphasized that such intellectual and interactive formats contribute to strengthening youth civic engagement and fostering a culture of gender equality within the academic environment.
During the competition, participants demonstrated their knowledge in the fields of gender policy, existing legal frameworks, the history of prominent women figures, leadership principles, education, and the role of women in contemporary society. The quiz was conducted in a team-based format, enabling participants to develop logical reasoning, rapid decision-making skills, teamwork, and collaborative responsibility. The format encouraged constructive dialogue and active exchange of ideas among students.
The quizzes were held in an open and creative atmosphere, filled with positive emotions and intellectual engagement. Participants showed a high level of enthusiasm and initiative, actively contributing to discussions and gaining new knowledge and insights. The event not only tested their academic awareness but also promoted critical thinking and social responsibility.
This initiative directly aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In particular, it contributes to SDG 5 – Gender Equality, which aims to empower women and girls and ensure equal rights and opportunities. The event also supports SDG 4 – Quality Education, by enhancing students’ legal awareness and social competencies. Furthermore, it reflects SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, as it promotes legal culture, civic responsibility, and the principle of zero tolerance toward violence.
Such intellectual initiatives play a significant role in strengthening the intellectual potential of female students, shaping their active social stance, and fostering a culture of rights awareness and self-advocacy. Through organizing events of this nature, the university consistently advances the principles of sustainable development, gender equality, and responsible civic participation among young people.
