Dialogue with History: An Academic Visit within the Space of Spiritual Heritage

3 march, 2026

On March 3, 2026, a practical and educational event was organized for first-year master’s students of Islamic Studies and Religious Studies at KazNU within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals. The event took place at the Almaty Museum, where students thoroughly explored the historical and cultural heritage of the Zhetysu region.

Through the museum’s 11 exhibition halls, the master’s students examined the historical development of Almaty from ancient times to the present day, analyzing archaeological artifacts, ethnographic collections, and written sources. This visit broadened their professional outlook, strengthened their historical awareness, and fostered a responsible attitude toward cultural heritage.

Such academic field visits organized outside the classroom effectively integrate theoretical knowledge with practical experience and enhance the research skills of future specialists in Islamic Studies and Religious Studies. Moreover, they contribute to a deeper understanding of national historical memory and cultural continuity. Engaging with cultural heritage is not only about understanding the past but also about making a conscious step toward the future.

Events of this format not only improve the scientific and practical training of future specialists but also deepen the understanding of the interconnection between national heritage and the values of sustainable development.

Event organizers:

Malikov S. – 2nd-year Master’s student in Islamic Studies

Däurenbek N. – 2nd-year Master’s student in Islamic Studies

Zhamal R.A. – 2nd-year Master’s student in Islamic Studies
