SDG 16. “Respect for the Law as an Indicator of Civic Culture”
On March 1, an open curatorial session titled “Respect for the Law as an Indicator of Civic Culture” was held at the Department of Pre-University Training within the framework of SDG 16 (Sustainable Development Goal 16).
SDG 16 is one of the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations. This goal aims to promote peaceful and just societies and to develop effective and transparent institutions.
During the event, ethnic Kazakh students who arrived from abroad were informed that respect for and compliance with the law is an important indicator of civic culture. It was emphasized that obeying the law is one of the fundamental principles that ensures the sustainable development of a civilized society and the maintenance of public order. It was noted that the principles of justice and equality can only be realized when every citizen follows legal requirements. Therefore, respect for the law and compliance with it are considered important indicators of civic culture.
It was also explained that civic culture implies an individual’s awareness of their rights and responsibilities in society, conscious adherence to legal norms, and a responsible attitude toward maintaining public order. Such a culture is reflected in the ability to consider not only personal interests but also the interests of society as a whole. By obeying the law, individuals contribute not only to their own safety but also to strengthening social stability and public harmony.
During the open curatorial session, participants were also introduced to the rules governing the stay of foreign citizens in the Republic of Kazakhstan, their rights and responsibilities, as well as types of legal violations. Particular attention was given to administrative offenses and the fines established by current legislation.
