Профессору и учителю Герману Киму – 70 лет

The founder of the School of Korean Studies in Central Asia, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Herman Nikolaevich Kim celebrated his 70th anniversary.

Herman Nikolaevich began his professional career in 1977 at the Department of Foreign Languages, after graduating from the Kazakh State University named after S.M. Kirov. He gained rich experience as a teacher and scientist while working as a professor at the Department of the Far East of the Faculty of Oriental Studies. Then he headed the Department of Korean Studies of KazNU National University named after al-Farabi.

The scientist was repeatedly invited by foreign universities. He has worked fruitfully as a visiting professor at the Institute of Humanities Studies of the University of Michigan (USA), the Institute of Emerging Economies and Hokkaido University (Japan).

A significant contribution to science was made in the status of Chief Researcher of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Professor of the Department of Korean Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Over the years, he worked at universities in South Korea. Since 2020, he has been heading the Institute of Asian Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

Herman Kim is the author of 250 scientific articles and 45 publications, including a three-volume monograph "The History of immigration of Koreans", which became the "Best book" on the history of Korea in 2006. The book was published in a circulation of 30 thousand copies.

The merits of the scientist and teacher were awarded: the Kazakhstan Order "Dostyk" II degree, the Order of the Republic of Korea "For Civil Merit" (2015).

German Nikolaevich Kim is an Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2007), winner of the KBS Television Company (South Korea) award in the nomination "Humanities and Social Sciences", awarded to outstanding foreign Koreans.
