A situation center has been established under the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan to provide students with places in dormitories. This was announced today by Minister Sayasat Nurbek during a meeting of the expanded board with the participation of rectors of higher educational institutions.

The head of the department, Sayasat Nurbek, paid special attention to the need to provide dormitories for the maximum number of students.

"It is obvious that it is impossible to provide all students with dormitories. This problem is still systemic, but the Ministry is working in this direction. In particular, our department has created a situation center, which together with universities will help students get places in dormitories," the minister said.

Sayasat Nurbek also called on public figures and concerned citizens to join the situation center to help students in need.

To promptly respond to students' housing problems, the Situation Center has launched a call center at +77002551443, which will work 24/7.

"To systematically solve the problems of shortage of places, this year we have opened project offices for the construction of dormitories in Almaty and Astana, since 70% of the shortage of places falls on these cities. I also previously instructed to complete the repair work at universities by August 15. Before the start of the academic year, the first heads of universities need to pay special attention to the compliance of dormitories with the requirements of sanitary and technical standards," said Sayasat Nurbek.

According to the forecasts of universities in the new academic year, the number of students in need of a dormitory will be 134 thousand people. Due to the large concentration of universities in Almaty, every year a large influx of applicants from different regions falls on the southern capital. Students who do not have enough places in dormitories will be offered places in hostels and hotels until the shortage of places is resolved.

It is worth noting that from September 1, 2023, a new version of the Law "On Education" comes into force, providing for the provision of places in dormitories for all students of educational organizations.
