Issues of common Turkic alphabet were discussed in KazNU

Al-Farabi KazNU hosted the international conference "Integration role of the common Turkic alphabet: scientific and social aspects". The event was organized by the International Turkic Academy, the Turkish Language Society at the Ataturk Higher Institute of Culture, Language and History and Al-Farabi KazNU.

The conference was attended by Malik Otarbayev, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Shahin Mustafayev, President of the International Turkic Academy, Derya Ors, President of the Ataturk High Council for Culture, Language and History, Osman Mert, Director of the Turkish Linguistic Society. Ataturk Derya Ors, Director of the Turkish Linguistic Society Osman Mert, Deputy Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking Countries Saky Sadikova, Chief Advisor to the Chairman of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States Sinan Yulker, state and public figures, members of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, experts in the field of linguistics from leading scientific organizations of the Turkic world, teachers and students.

The guests before the conference visited the Al-Farabi Museum, the reading room of the library, the UN Global HAB Hall, the exposition "Seven Facets of the Great Steppe", the exhibition of scientific achievements.

 The conference was opened with a welcoming speech by the Chairman of the Board - Rector of Al-Farabi KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebaev. The head of the university noted that the study of the history and development of Turkic alphabets in the field of social and humanitarian sciences is a key issue in the preservation of cultural heritage.

"In recent years, close relations and spiritual ties have been strengthening in the Turkic world. Head of State Kasym-Jomart Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan is the land of the fathers of the Turkic world, so we attach special importance to the development of our comprehensive interaction. We are interested in further strengthening our cooperation and bringing it to a new level"

"I believe that such scientific events of international level, which reflect the spiritual values of the Turkic world, are always of great importance," said Rector Zhanseit Tuimebayev.

Shahin Mustafayev, President of the International Turkic Academy, spoke at the event and noted: "It is our common responsibility to continue the century-long process of creating a common alphabet, to achieve positive results and to lay a solid foundation for building the future. I believe that the academic circles of Turkic states should contribute to the process of giving socio-cultural significance to the common alphabet and its adoption, as well as promote unity on this issue".

Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Malik Otarbayev noted that the third of November will be held the next meeting of heads of state, within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States, which will give a new impetus to the activation of the brotherhood of Turkic countries. "This year the anniversaries of famous thinkers and scientists of the East are celebrated. In particular, the 1050th anniversary of Abu Rayhan Al Biruni, the 930th anniversary of the Great Teacher of the Turkic world Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, the 100th anniversary of Azerbaijani statesman and public figure Heydar Aliyev, the 95th anniversary of the birth of Chingiz Aitmatov. And also 100 years since the establishment of the Republic of Turkey. The common anniversaries reflect our history and promote cultural interaction between Turkic states. I am confident that the conference will not only define the goal and objective related to the common alphabet and terminology, but also achieve a positive result".

Renowned linguistic scholars and experts from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan also spoke at the meeting. At the event, members of the Commission on the Common Alphabet and representatives of linguistics institutes, discussed the development of the alphabet, analyzed the state language policy of the participating countries.

In the framework of the event, Chairman of the Board-Rector of the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi Zhanseit Tuimebaev held a personal meeting with scientists from Turkey, who specially came to the international conference. During the meeting the parties discussed general issues in the field of development of Turkology.

At the end of the conference, a resolution was adopted, proposing solutions, studying and implementing a common Turkic alphabet, and comprehensive agreements were signed.
