International Symposium "Science for Sustainable Development:  Challenges for Central Asia" Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan, November 3 - 5, 2023

The symposium was held in support of the UN Decade of Science for Sustainable Development and is designed to highlight the contribution of basic research and education to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The Symposium is organized by UNESCO, IUPAC, PhosAgro and Mendeleev University. Participants of the symposium: Kasri Amal - Head of the Section of Fundamental Sciences, Innovation and Engineering Research of UNESCO, J. T. Mirzamakhmudov - Minister of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, I. Y. Abdurakhmonov. - Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Alleman Luke - Secretary General of the International Year of Fundamental Sciences for Sustainable Development 2022/2023, Keinan Yehud - President–Elect of IUPAC, A.A. Rakhmonzoda - Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Republic of Uzbekistan, I.V. Eremin – Vice–Rector for the Development of Educational Programs and International Activities of D.I. Mendeleev RCTU, N. P. Tarasov – Director of the Institute of Chemistry and Problems of Sustainable Development of D.I. Mendeleev RCTU. G.Yu. Shakhgildyan - Deputy Vice-Rector for the Development of Educational Programs and International Activities of Mendeleev RCTU, S. A. Loikov - First Deputy General Director of PJSC PhosAgro, etc.

There were 3 panel sections:

1. "Fundamental sciences for sustainable development in the Central Asian region";

2. "Best practices of Central Asian Universities: education and research for sustainable development";

3. "School education for sustainable development". 

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University was represented by the Head of the UNESCO chair for Sustainable Development, T.A. Bazarbayeva, who, in her report, acquainted the participants of the symposium with the global initiatives of the research university in the field of sustainable development.

The speakers presented scientific projects carried out within the framework of sustainable development, discussed issues of educational programs and suggested that all educational programs should contain elements of sustainable development, according to the 17 SDG. The winners of the 7th round of the "Green Chemistry for Life" program were also awarded.
