"Corruption as an obstacle to improve the efficiency of public administration"
On November 24, 2023 at 15.00 within the frameworks of Sustainable Development Goals 16 the Department of Foreign Languages held a round table talk on the topic: "Corruption as an obstacle to improve the efficiency of public administration", dedicated to the International Day against Corruption. The lecturers of the Department, K.A.Aisultanova, G.K.Atabayeva. G.A.Mussanova, D.Zh.Tektybaeva, the students and the master’s degree students of al-Farabi KazNU, as well as the students of the Academy of Civil Aviation, the master’s students of Baku State University were the participants of the event. The speakers talked about the direct and indirect links between corruption and various SDGs, emphasized corruption influence on poverty eradication, quality education, access to health care, gender equality, economic growth and environmental sustainability.
The speakers also outlined strategies, policies and innovative approaches used by some countries and organizations for efficient struggle against corruption and made an accent on the importance of sound legal frameworks, accountability mechanisms, public awareness campaigns and the use of technology in the fight against corruption.
The main event focus was on the importance of anti-corruption to realize the SDGs and the need for joint action among sectors and stakeholders. The participants discussed the detrimental impact of corruption on social, economic and environmental progress and the crucial role of integrity and transparency in achieving sustainable development.
Corruption was emphasized to be a significant obstacle in SDGs implementation. It undermines institutions and public trust, diverts resources and contributes to inequality.
