VIII "Al-Farabi students" city debate tournament was held

The VIII traditional city debate tournament "Al-Farabi’s Students," organized by the "Altyn Sapa" intellectual debate club under the Youth Organizations Committee of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, has concluded.

The tournament, held on the theme "Youth's Attitude towards Education," saw the participation of 128 debaters, grouped into 54 factions. Leading universities of Kazakhstan, such as Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Satbayev University, Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, Kazakh National Agrarian Research University, Kazakh State Women's Teacher Training University, Abylai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages, Suleyman Demirel University, and others, took part in the event.

The two-day debate consisted of four qualifying rounds. During these rounds, students discussed pressing issues such as the effective use of social media by youth, the ideal traits of the modern generation, the engagement of student youth in innovative processes, readiness for robotics and space exploration, and ways to protect young people from dependency on modern technologies. Each faction defended its stance by drawing on evidence from various fields of knowledge.

The jury was comprised of the most active and talented students, who evaluated the participants based on eloquence, logic, argumentation, and emotional appeal. The prize fund amounted to 480,000 KZT, with the "American Parliamentary" format awards as follows: 1st place – 100,000 KZT; 2nd place – 70,000 KZT; 3rd place – 50,000 KZT. For the "Lincoln-Douglas" format: 1st place – 50,000 KZT; 2nd place – 30,000 KZT. Special awards included "Best Judge" – 50,000 KZT, and "Intellectual Game Winner" – 30,000 KZT, among others.

Throughout the competition, participants enhanced their confidence, quick thinking, improvisation, and oratory skills. As a result, the 1st place was won by Sabit Erzhan and Baitureev Bolat from the "Kazakh Propaganda" faction, earning 100,000 KZT. The 2nd place went to Seyitov Olzhas and Kaldybai Altynai from the "Mind and Heart" faction (SDU), who received 70,000 KZT. The 3rd place was secured by Tolebayeva Gauhar and Ermagambetova Regina from the "Iron Ladies" faction (Narxoz and SDU), winning 50,000 KZT. Students from the "Titan" faction, Karzhaubayuly Yesenbek and Serikbolkyzy Dilnaz from Almaty Technological University, were awarded the "Best Effort" nomination, while the title of Best Speaker went to Yerasyl Shaymuradov and Abdrakhman Serikuly.
