Current environmental problems discussed

26 february, 2024

With the assistance of A. Kushim, Professor of the Cartography and Geoinformatics Department of the Faculty of Geography and Nature Management, the students met with specialists from employing institutions.

The meeting was attended by leading researcher of the technogenic seismic laboratory of LLP "Institute of Seismology" of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Eren Zeynollayevich, head of the department for prevention of emergency situations and operation of defense facilities of the State Institution "Kazselzaschita" Bauyrzhan Abishev, deputy director of the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction Meymanbek Chekirbaev, chief expert of the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction Bakhtiyar Maratovich, Zulfiya Serikovna, chief expert of the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction.

Speaking at the meeting, the Dean of the Faculty A. Aktymbaeva thanked the arrived specialists, called for further joint work, as well as in support of students to share their work experience, take an active part in various events organized by employers within the University.

The specialists who arrived at the meeting presented their work through video clips and encouraged students to take an internship in their institutions and work in the future. Currently, there is a shortage of specialists working with causal factors affecting the natural environment in order to prevent, predict and post-hazard natural hazards. In this regard, the students of the specialty "natural-technogenic hazards", prepared at the department, received a good education and are called for further joint work, participation in various projects. He noted that all the information about the work done and realized projects in their areas will be provided in open access on the social website, the data can be used for their classes, term and diploma works.

The meeting discussed the issues of natural disasters occurring in our country, i.e. the current problems with the heart of the field ecosystem - saigas, earthquakes threatening the city of Almaty, and the threat of mudflows.

According to recent studies by scientists, pastures are being depleted not only by overuse, but also by disuse. Untouched by the hooves or scythes of animals, natural vegetation on pastures cannot sow or scatter seeds or put them into the ground, but unwanted plants do not germinate and soak the ground with water, which negatively affects soil fertility and the development of plant life. Such sites are also susceptible to burnout. Antelope selectively eat grass, not coming off the bottom like sheep, but only stretching upward. Often picking grass at each site and grazing on foot. So the growth of the plants does not stop, but rather scatters the seeds and inserts them into the ground with sharp, ashen hooves. And it was for this reason that we were told that we should not let saigas disappear or migrate to another country. We also talked about the volume of glaciers on the top of the Alatau. Videos were shown about the effects of glacier melting on our country. Students were more familiar with the different measures to protect the city of Almaty from the villages.

The students also felt how important their chosen profession is and received comprehensive answers to their questions.

Professor of the department Asima Galymzhanovna made a welcoming speech, noting that it is very important for students of the newly opened specialty "natural technogenic hazards" at the department to meet with special experts and the need for specialty.

For their part, the guests were given gifts and were photographed. At the same time, all specialists working on the study of natural and emergency situations were assisted in their work, always wishing to fulfill their work with dignity.
