A scientific-practical seminar on the topic "Structural Factors of Poverty and Measures to Achieve Well-being in Kazakhstan"

On March 5, 2024, at the Department of Sociology and Social Work, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, a scientific-practical seminar was held on the topic "Structural Factors of Poverty and Measures to Achieve Well-being in Kazakhstan" as part of the "17 Sustainable Development Goals" project. The seminar began with greetings and introduction of all the gathered guests by the head of the Department of Sociology and Social Work at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Doctor of Sociology, Professor Abdirayimova Gulmira Serikovna. The first speaker at the seminar was Balabaeva Nina Nikolaevna, who is the director of the Public Fund "Center for Social and Psychological Rehabilitation and Adaptation for Women and Children "Rodnik". She presented the topic "Providing Assistance to Vulnerable Migrants in the Conditions of COVID-19", acquainting the gathered guests with the problem faced by migrants during the COVID-19 pandemic. Next was a representative of the organization "ARDI" (Association of Parents of Disabled Children), methodologist Abdulayeva Gulmira Seitbattalovna, who presented the topic "Why Are Families with Children with Developmental Disabilities at Risk?" The speaker highlighted the importance of supporting such families by the state and charitable foundations. Then, Bakytzhanova Aynur Aibynkyzy, project manager of the "Center for Public Opinion Research", presented the topic "Health and Opportunities: Reproductive Health of Women at Different Socio-Economic Levels". She discussed Kazakhstan's progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 1, "Poverty Eradication", and the impact of poverty on women's reproductive health. Following her, Aliyeva Nazym Uzbekkyzy, Director of the Legal Department of "Ay Qaraul", presented the topic "Promoting Women to Leadership Positions: The Influence of Prejudices on Women's Well-being", discussing gender inequality in Kazakhstan's corporate environment. The next speaker was Dzhanuzakova Ayan Almukhanova, a third-year doctoral student at the Department of Sociology and Social Work at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, who presented detailed statistics on the improvement of youth's living standards and well-being in modern Kazakhstan. Lastly, Saimasaeva Aruzhan Aydarkhanovna, a second-year doctoral student at the Department of Sociology and Social Work at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, compared the influence of religiosity levels on life satisfaction using data from the World Values Survey, concluding that religiosity positively impacts life satisfaction. Finally, Akhmadi M. A., PhD, lecturer at the Department of Sociology and Social Work at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, presented the topic "Measurement and Analysis of Well-being Indicators: Modern Approaches and Methodologies", discussing new approaches and methodologies for assessing well-being indicators and their prospective applications in future respondent well-being studies.
