The Spiritual Legacy of Khodja Ahmed Yassawi and the Religious Situation in Contemporary Kazakh Society

Within the framework of Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education on April 8, 2024, a round table was held at the History Faculty of al-Farabi Kazakh National University on the topic "The Spiritual Legacy of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi and the Religious Situation in Modern Kazakh Society." The participants of the round table were master's students of the 1st and 2nd courses of the educational programs "7M01601-History" and "7M01602-History and Geography". The organizer was Professor Erke Tamabekovna Kartabayeva, the head of the Department of World History, Historiography, and Source Studies.

The round table was organized within the framework of the International Scientific Conference of Students and Young Scientists "Farabi World", based on the disciplines "Teaching Methodology of Religious History" and "Sacred Geography in Central Asia", taught by the professor in these educational programs. The aim of the round table was to contribute to a correct understanding of the religious situation in modern Kazakh society, to promote traditional religion and spiritual values based on Ahmed Yasawi's teachings, and to instill in the minds of young people a system of traditional values that have passed through centuries and are capable of responding to the challenges of the 21st century.

During the round table, the master's students actively discussed various aspects of the topic, particularly focusing on the features of Turkic Sufism founded by Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, the role of women in society according to Yasawiya, attitudes towards knowledge, Yasawiya and religious tolerance, Turkic-Islamic synthesis, and the combination of Islamic values and Turkic spiritual traditions within the framework of Yasawiya. Overall, the round table achieved its goal, and the topic was fully disclosed. The event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty, Baigunakov D.S., and other faculty leaders.
