The rector of KazNU took part in the meeting of the ministers of education of the SCO member states.

Chairman of the Board - Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebayev took part in the meeting of ministers of education of the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which this year is chaired by Russia.

  The large-scale event was attended by Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov, Deputy Minister of Education of Russia Denis Gribov, Deputy Secretary General of the SCO Nuran Niyazaliev, heads of specialized agencies of SCO member and observer countries including Belarus, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and the People's Republic of China.

Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, opened the event with welcoming remarks. In his speech, Mr. Falkov emphasized that today's meeting was the first such high-level SCO education event in the last 5 years.

At the meeting, the heads of delegations presented national projects aimed at ensuring quality and accessibility of education and discussed the development of cooperation in this area. Special attention was paid to the functioning of the key educational project on the platform of the organization - the SCO Network University.

During the meeting, Zhanseit Tuimebaev spoke about the many years of fruitful relations between the two countries. 

"Diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Russia were established on October 22, 1992. For 32 years the two countries have been actively cooperating in a multilateral format. If we talk about cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia in the field of education and science, today KazNU has 195 agreements with 140 leading universities, institutes, organizations of the Russian Federation. 7 branches of Russian universities are working in Kazakhstan. Every year our teachers and students exchange knowledge and experience. The number of joint scientific projects is increasing every year. I am sure that in the future the work in this direction will only develop and expand", - said the rector of KazNU.

In conclusion, the participants of the meeting expressed their gratitude to the Russian side for the hospitality and high level of organization and holding of the Eighth Session of the Meeting of Ministers of Education of the SCO Member States.
