KazNU hosted a quiz ‘What do you know about atomic energy?’
The Department of Theoretical and Nuclear Physics of Al-Farabi KazNU held a quiz ‘What do you know about atomic energy?’.
More than 100 young students took part in a quiz aimed at determining their knowledge of the current nuclear energy system and its use, its impact on the world and its importance in the future.
A nuclear power plant (NPP) is a facility that converts the energy of the atomic nucleus into electricity. The world's first nuclear power plant, Obninsk NPP, was launched in 1954. It is located in the city of Obninsk in the Kaluga region of Russia. The station operated for almost 48 years. Thus, the sphere of nuclear energy began to develop actively after the Second World War.
The main advantage of nuclear power plants is clean energy. Consequently, nuclear power plants do not release greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere, which is the main cause of climate change. They contribute little to air and water pollution, which reduces the environmental impact.
Young people, fascinated by this and much more knowledge about nuclear energy, played a quiz on the QUIZIZZ platform. At each of the three quiz stages, participants also tested their knowledge of the principles of nuclear power plants, nuclear reactions, safety measures and radioactive waste management. As a result, winners were identified and awards were presented.
