KazNU, Institute of Meteorology and Kazhydromet will co-operate

The university administration held a meeting with the delegation of the Finnish Meteorological Institute, which visited Al-Farabi Kazakh National University on a working visit.

 

The meeting was attended by acting Deputy Chairman of the Board - First Vice-Rector of KazNU Erkin Duisenov, Director General of RSE ‘Kazhydromet’ Danara Alimbayeva, Head of the Air Quality Department of the Finnish Meteorological Institute Katja Loven, Deputy Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Finland to Kazakhstan Helena Bogdan.

During the meeting KazNU, Finnish Meteorological Institute and Kazgidromet signed a memorandum of understanding and co-operation. This agreement will allow to control and analyse air quality, conduct trainings for expert scientists, publish common scientific articles in international journals.

Welcoming the guests of honour, Vice-Rector Yerkin Duisenov stressed KazNU's interest in further dynamic development of relations with the Finnish Meteorological Institute.

‘Currently, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University has close relations with two universities in Finland. Scientists of the Faculty of Geography and Nature Management undergo training in the Finnish Meteorological Institute. On behalf of the management of the higher educational institution I express my gratitude for the joint implementation of this work. I am sure that in the future we will conduct joint scientific research’, - said the Vice-Rector.

In turn, Katja Loven noted the need for joint conferences, scientific research, exchange between scientists and teachers in order to develop a partnership between KazNU and the Institute.

The Finnish Meteorological Institute is a leading expert in meteorology, air quality, climate change, Earth observation, marine and Arctic research areas.

Also during the meeting, Danara Alimbayeva, Director General of Kazgidromet RSE, said: ‘Kazhydromet has been working with KazNU and the Finnish Meteorological Institute for many years. Thanks to fruitful co-operation we have achieved a large-scale result. I believe that today's agreement will allow us to continue this work and achieve even more success in the future’.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to develop a work plan for co-operation and to carry out systematic work in this direction.
