President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in his address to the nation titled “A Just Kazakhstan: Rule of Law, Economic Growth, and Public Optimism” delivered at the joint session of the Parliament chambers, emphasized improving the welfare of the people.
One of the key points in the address was the proposal to hold a nationwide referendum on October 6 regarding the construction of a nuclear power plant.
For our country, which suffered enormously from the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site, the very word “nuclear” evokes concern. However, the President noted that “…our economy can increasingly provide abundant energy. Currently, around 200 nuclear power plants operate in 30 developed and developing countries”, providing clear evidence that using domestically produced uranium to generate cheap energy can be highly efficient. If the plant is built with the participation of experts from countries with high safety standards, such as the USA and Japan, this would represent a forward-looking initiative aimed at securing the future.
I also fully support the President’s thoughts on financial and monetary policy, improving conditions for business, fully utilizing the country’s industrial potential, enhancing human resources, strengthening national health, improving the ecological situation, and deeply embedding the ideology of law and order. If all of this is implemented, not just stated, there is strong confidence that our country will continue to thrive.
