Development of arbitration in Kazakhstan as an element of civil society

On October 24, 2024, a scientific seminar titled "Development of arbitration in Kazakhstan as an element of civil society" was held at the Faculty of Law of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Organized by the Department of Customs, Financial, and Environmental Law, the event was part of the university’s efforts to implement SDG No. 16. The seminar featured participation from key faculty members, including Dean of the Faculty of Law, Associate Professor, Ph.D. U.A. Akhatov, Head of the Department, Professor G.A. Kuanalieva, PhD holder G.K. Rasheva, PhD student of the 1st year T.S. Smagulova, as well as the invited guest Executive Director of the Kazakhstani International Arbitration, Research Institute of Private Law of Caspian University, Head of the Arbitration Chamber of Kazakhstan, member of SAB at the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan, member of the Board of the Turkic Arbitration Association (Paris), PhD in Law A.E. Duissenova. Active participation was shown by students of 1 and 4 years of law faculty.
Promoting peaceful and open societies for sustainable development, ensuring access to justice for all and building effective, accountable and participatory institutions at all levels is a priority for the United Nations. To achieve peace, justice and inclusiveness, it is important that governments, civil society and communities work together to implement durable solutions to reduce violence, deliver justice, fight corruption and ensure continued inclusive participation.
During the scientific seminar the following issues were considered by the guest speaker Assel Yerikovna:   
- Formation and development of legislation on arbitration in the Republic of Kazakhstan;
- Types of arbitration;
- Arbitration Chamber of Kazakhstan;
- Improvement of legislation on arbitration. 
Assel Yerikovna highlighted recent changes in the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan on arbitration and further ways of its improvement.
Senior Lecturer K. Kuandykov emphasized the importance of such meetings for students, as they allow combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience.
During the scientific seminar students actively asked questions, showing interest in the topic under discussion. The participants highlighted the significance of arbitration development in Kazakhstan as a contributing factor in the evolution of a rule-of-law state and the growth of civil society.
