SDG-4. CURRENT ISSUES IN THE PUBLISHING FIELD
A series of traditional master classes organized by the Department of Publishing, Editorial and Design Art has begun at the Faculty of Journalism of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University since 28 November 2024. These events are aimed at providing students not only with theoretical knowledge, but also the opportunity to communicate with experienced specialists.
The organization of master classes was headed by the head of the department Ramadan Aigul, with the participation of teachers of the department: Kopbayeva Temirgali, Mukhatayeva Konyr, Shaikha Ermakhan, Smail Darmen, Danayeva Nurlyayim, Tolepbergen Bolatbek and Ihsan Asylbek. The guest of honor of the first lecture was Adil Koytanov, Director of the National Book Chamber of the Republic of Kazakhstan and President of the Association of Publishers, Printers and Book Distributors, who shared his views on the prospects and problems of the national publishing industry. The meeting was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Journalism, Auesbai Kanat, presenting the floor to the guest of honor.
In his speech, Adil Koitanov considered in detail the key issues facing the national book industry, emphasizing the important role of books in the development of culture and civilization. He also noted the contribution of the National Book Chamber to the preservation of spiritual heritage and ensuring the systematic work of publishing houses, including the assignment of international ISBN numbers, which contributes to the production of high-quality publications and their accessibility to readers.
Adil Koitanov also shared his impressions of a recent trip to the Frankfurt Book Fair, where he discussed current publishing trends with colleagues and students. During the master class, future publishers asked questions about publishing standards and the preservation of cultural heritage, to which the guest gave detailed answers.
Thus, a series of master classes organized by the department has become a significant platform for improving the professional competence of students and strengthening their ties with industry experts.
