“Gender Issues in the Context of the Transformation of Kazakhstani Society”
On November 8, 2024, at 12:00 PM, a successful leadership lecture was held at KSU Secondary School No. 142 for the senior class students. The topic was “Gender Issues in the Context of the Transformation of Kazakhstani Society,” within the framework of SDG 5: “Gender Equality.” The event was organized by Bogdan Zhakitov, a student of the Faculty of Law at Al-Farabi KazNU, who helped choose the school, which he himself graduated from. At this school, Zhakitov served as President of the student community and is now an active member of the “Fair Law” scientific community at the Faculty of Law, as well as the head of the third-year class in the specialty of “Law Enforcement Activities.” The speaker was N.Kh. Kalisheva, Associate Professor of the Department of Theory and History of State and Law, Constitutional and Administrative Law at the Faculty of Law, Al-Farabi KazNU, and Doctor of Law. The deputy head of KSU Secondary School No. 142 for educational work, Leila Rakhimzhanovna Kulinskaya, warmly welcomed us and introduced the lecture to the senior class students.
Ahead of the discussion on the Government’s Action Plan for Promoting Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment for the years 2024-2027, the speaker prepared a scientific presentation on the announced topic. The subjects covered in the leadership lecture were diverse and relevant. These included the history of gender inequality, the concept of gender, women in traditional Kazakh society, gender studies: worldview and methodology, the role of the UN in improving the status of women, international documents protecting women’s rights, violence against women, LGBT rights in Kazakhstan, Sweden’s gender equality policy, and more.
Gender inequality refers to the imbalance in development that defines the differences between individuals belonging to two social groups, called men and women. The specifics of the mindset and lifestyle of these social groups give rise to two additional concepts: masculinity for men and femininity for women. The main goal of this seminar was to demonstrate how gender differences and relationships are addressed in gender studies in Kazakhstan and some foreign countries.
I believe that holding such educational events for young people and addressing the pressing issues of gender inequality is crucial for educational purposes and for solving the socialization challenges of society in the New Kazakhstan.
