On November 7, 2024, Aliya Ualieva, Head of the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Evidence-Based Medicine, and Fariza Bimurzaeva, Deputy Director for Educational and Methodological Work at the Higher School of Public Health, attended the grand opening of the Center for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, Short Bowel Syndrome and Nutritional Correction at the Research Institute of Cardiology and Internal Medicine (https://ncvb.kz/news-page/v-almaty-otkrylsya-pervyj-v-strane-spetsializirovannyj-tsentr-po-lecheniyu-vzk-skk-i-nutritivnoj-korrektsii). This is a space where innovative technologies and advanced approaches come together to improve the quality of life of patients. Inflammatory bowel diseases, which include Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, are chronic, progressive over time and immunologically mediated diseases that often debut at a young age and are characterized by alternating periods of exacerbations and remissions. IBD significantly reduces the quality of life of people affected by this disease, causing severe complications up to and including disability and malignant neoplasms. Reducing premature mortality from noncommunicable diseases by one third through prevention and treatment and maintaining mental health and well-being by 2030 is one of the targets of Sustainable Development Goal 3 - Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
