Meeting with Almaty schools on the theme ‘Increasing legal literacy’
On November 13, 2024, Associate Professor G.B. Mukaldieva of the Department of Civil Law, Civil Procedure, and Labor Law at the Faculty of Law, Al-Farabi KazNU, held a meeting aimed at promoting sustainable development in Kazakhstan, increasing legal literacy in Almaty schools, preventing juvenile delinquency, and instilling legal values. The event included informative sessions for students.
Today, society is concerned about the low level of legal literacy among citizens in a rule-of-law state. Developing legal awareness and culture is the foundation of justice, harmonizing the interests of individuals, society, and the state. A thorough understanding of one’s rights, freedoms, and responsibilities, alongside adherence to legal norms, is essential for fostering political, economic, and social growth in the country, thereby strengthening public order.
Modern realities demand high legal awareness from citizens. Kazakhstan’s level of development brings profound changes across all areas of society, fostering the establishment of a democratic state governed by the rule of law. Consequently, individuals today must exhibit a strong sense of accountability for their actions, an ability to adapt to social changes, and an aptitude for making independent decisions.
Kazakhstan aspires to establish itself as a secular, lawful, and democratic state. Achieving this goal requires youth engagement, underscoring the importance of improving legal education and upbringing among the younger generation. Legal literacy and culture form the cornerstone of legal upbringing. Each person should not only know their rights but also possess a general understanding of the legal field. This knowledge enables individuals to assess the legality of actions within society, promoting ethical standards.
Given the developmental characteristics of adolescents, it is essential to utilize creative forms of legal education. An educated individual understands the harm that disorderly, immoral, or illegal actions can inflict. Legal literacy builds high levels of legal culture and fosters a conscious attitude toward maintaining public order.
The primary goal of legal education is to shape exemplary citizens in a rule-of-law state, who respect legal norms, understand their duties, and uphold public order.
