Topic of the educational hour: "Conserving Ecosystems – The Key to Natural Balance"
On December 4, 2024, in honor of the 90th anniversary of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, an educational hour was organized in line with the 15th goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Programme (SDG), which aims to "protect, restore, and promote the sustainable use of ecosystems on land, manage forests sustainably, combat desertification, halt land degradation, restore land, and halt biodiversity loss." The event was organized for second-year students. The session was led by Associate Professor B. Imanbekova from the Department of Pedagogy and Education Management and teacher-educator M. Murzagulova. Also participating were students from the following specialties: "8D08401 — Fisheries and Industrial Fishing" (J. I. Urgenishbaeva, N. M. Seydalieva), "8D05101 — Biology" (M. Erbai), and "8D05108 — Geobotany" (M. E. Musina, J. M. Takieva).
The educational hour took place at the Biology Museum of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The event was attended by second-year students and museum staff, totaling 20 participants.
Objective of the educational hour: The goal was to explain the concept of ecosystems and their importance in maintaining natural balance, increase students' sense of responsibility for ecosystem protection, and demonstrate the connection between animals and their habitats through museum exhibits. During the session, the introduction included an explanation of ecosystems, and the main part of the event consisted of an excursion through the museum, with emphasis on the role of animals in ecosystems. The session also included analytical tasks, and in the final part, students performed creative assignments, discussing the importance of human actions in ecosystem preservation and measures to prevent the extinction of animals.
At the end of the session, students understood the importance of ecosystems, deepened their knowledge of ways to protect nature, and strengthened their sense of responsibility towards the environment.
