Scientific Seminar on Cultural Translation Held at the Department of Chinese Studies

On February 18, 2025, the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted a scientific seminar on "The Specifics of Cultural Translation." The event was organized by the Department of Chinese Studies as part of the research work of Gulzhanar Kaliolla, a first-year doctoral student in the 8D02301 "Translation Studies" program.

The seminar gathered faculty members, doctoral and master's students, as well as all those interested in intercultural communication. During the event, key aspects of translating culture-specific elements, linguistic and semantic nuances in text adaptation, and methods for preserving national identity when translating Chinese literature and philosophical texts were discussed.

Doctoral student Gulzhanar Kaliolla presented the results of her research, highlighting modern trends in cultural translation. She analyzed examples of concepts that are challenging to translate, explored methods for their adaptation in the context of the Kazakh and Chinese languages, and proposed effective strategies for overcoming translation difficulties.

As a result of the seminar, it was decided to continue research in this field and to organize a series of roundtable discussions dedicated to the translation of cultural concepts.
