As part of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, the Department of Biophysics, Biomedicine, and Neuroscience held an educational event titled “Mountain Ecosystems – Our Natural Heritage to Preserve.”

On October 29, 2025, the Department of Biophysics, Biomedicine, and Neuroscience organized an event aimed at familiarizing students with the value of mountain ecosystems, their biodiversity and vulnerability, and discussing measures for their conservation under conditions of sustainable development.

Master’s students of the “Biomedicine” program participated in the event. The main presentations highlighted the importance of mountain ecosystems, their biological diversity, and their fragility. Particular attention was given to the dependence of ecosystems on climate change, anthropogenic factors, and the overuse of natural resources.

The discussion also addressed strategies to ensure the sustainable use of mountain areas, strengthen environmental protection measures, and enhance ecological awareness among local communities. Participants emphasized the role of education and scientific research in preserving mountain ecosystems and discussed international cooperation practices in environmental protection.

During the event, participants became acquainted with the unique flora and fauna characteristic of Kazakhstan’s mountain regions, as well as with the specific interconnections within ecosystems. In addition, proposals were made to environmental organizations and local authorities regarding the preservation of mountain ecosystems, the responsible development of ecotourism, and the mitigation of climate change impacts. The organizers expressed confidence that as a result of this event, participants would broaden their ecological awareness of the importance of mountain ecosystems for life and gain a deeper understanding of the need to preserve mountains as unique natural sites.
