SDG 4: Open Advisory Session Held on «How to Create a Safe Learning Environment?»

10 october, 2025

Today, a significant portion of the educational process has moved to the digital space. This shift requires students to develop information literacy, responsible online behavior, and the ability to maintain a safe learning environment. In response to these needs, the Faculty of Philology held an open advisory session titled «How to Create a Safe Learning Environment?»

The main purpose of the event was to raise students’ awareness of the importance of safety in both online and academic settings, as well as to introduce methods for limiting and monitoring harmful content.

The session is highly relevant due to the increase in digital dependency, unlimited access to information, and the insufficient development of proper online behavior among youth. Today’s student must not only possess academic knowledge but also be able to protect themselves and their well-being in digital environments.

The open advisory session was attended by third-year international students from the «Foreign Philology: Western Languages» program. During the session, three main focus areas were highlighted: 1. Developing responsible behavior in the online space. Students learned how to protect personal information, follow ethical norms on social media, and combat cyberbullying and misinformation. During the discussion, participants shared their experiences and emphasized the importance of responsibility and respect for others in online communication. 2. Limiting and monitoring harmful content. Participants received information about the psychological and moral impact of harmful online content. Practical methods were introduced, including using content filters, relying on trustworthy sources, and developing critical evaluation skills. 3. Building a safe learning environment and promoting a culture of well-being. Students understood that a safe environment is essential not only in classrooms but also online. Maintaining mental and physical health is an important aspect of a safety culture.

At the end of the session, students provided feedback, noting the relevance and usefulness of the session. The topic of «Online Behavior» generated particular interest, prompting participants to reconsider their online activity and recognize the importance of protecting personal data and using information critically.

The open advisory session proved to be an effective educational and developmental activity, aimed at improving students’ digital literacy, fostering responsibility, and creating a safe learning environment.

Regularly organizing such sessions contributes to students’ personal growth, encourages responsible digital behavior, and helps shape active, responsible citizens of society.
