International Online Seminar on "China-Kazakhstan PT Education Exchange Along the Silk Road" Held
On January 9, 2026, with the participation of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, an international online seminar titled “PT in China and Kazakhstan — Along the Silk Road” was held as part of the Physics Tournament (PT) Education webinar series. The event took place at Nankai University (China) and was organized by the Virtual Teaching and Research Office for Physics Education Reform at the College of Physical Science, Nankai University.
Representing Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Associate Professor, PhD (Physics and Mathematics) K.M. Turekhanova delivered a presentation titled “Physics Tournament Education in Kazakhstan: Current Status, Experience, and Key Challenges.” The talk highlighted the development of physics tournaments in Kazakhstan, the role of specialized schools and universities, the value of inquiry-based learning approaches, and the importance of expanding international collaboration.
As part of the program, Professor Li Chuanyong of Nankai University presented an overview of the development of the PT model in China, emphasizing implementation practices, approaches to building research competencies, and institutional support mechanisms.
During the discussion, participants shared best practices in organizing PT-based, practice-oriented scientific activities, addressed the preparation of school and university students for research work, and discussed the role of student communities in running tournaments and scientific debates. It was noted that the PT model effectively increases students’ interest in science and strengthens research and communication skills, making it important to enhance joint initiatives, academic exchanges, and resource integration.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the parties expressed their readiness to further strengthen cooperation in organizing PT activities, teacher development, academic mobility, and promoting the PT model within international educational initiatives.
