The Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences discussed the conduct of the spring semester examination session
A methodological seminar was held at the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, dedicated to the selection of formats and platforms for conducting final assessment in the Spring semester of the 2025–2026 academic year.
During the event, current approaches to organizing the examination session were discussed, and statistical data on the use of various forms of final assessment were presented.
The most widely used formats included written offline examinations and testing through the Moodle system. Oral examinations in both online and offline formats, written online assignments, and combined forms of assessment are also actively applied.
Particular attention was paid to the distribution of examinations across departments. The Department of Geography, Land Management and Cadastre will conduct more than 200 examinations; the Department of Recreational Geography and Tourism — around 190; the Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics — 150; and the UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development — more than 120 examinations.
Seminar participants were informed about the regulations for selecting and approving the forms of final assessment: the determination of platforms must be completed by the end of February, while approval at the departmental level must be finalized by early March 2026.
The meeting also addressed specific aspects of conducting Moodle-based testing, proctoring requirements, ensuring academic integrity and information security, as well as the advantages of oral examinations as a more flexible and psychologically comfortable format for assessing students’ knowledge.
Holding such methodological seminars is aimed at improving the quality of examination procedures, introducing modern educational technologies, and ensuring transparency in the organization of final assessment at the faculty.
