Stand-up Evening “Strength Through Laughter: Women’s Boundaries and Dignity” Held at KazNU
At Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the “Sen Sulu” Girls’ Club, established within the “Sunkar” Trade Union of Students and Master’s Degree Candidates, organized a stand-up evening titled “Strength Through Laughter: Women’s Boundaries and Dignity.” The event was held as part of the university’s efforts to implement the “Gender Equality” direction outlined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and provided a unique platform to discuss contemporary issues concerning women in society.
The primary objective of the evening was to enhance female students’ legal and social literacy, promote respect for personal boundaries, and strengthen the principle of zero tolerance toward violence. The organizers emphasized that interactive and creative formats foster critical thinking, civic engagement, and awareness of gender equality issues among young people.
The special guest of the event was Beknur Abilkhanqyzy, a well-known stand-up comedian. Through her performance, she humorously addressed important topics, including the role of women in modern society, gender stereotypes, and balancing career and family life. Her presentation not only entertained the audience but also encouraged participants to reflect on women’s rights, personal safety, and self-respect.
An interactive question-and-answer session was held, allowing students to ask pressing questions and receive practical advice on protecting their rights, developing psychological resilience, and enhancing personal safety skills. The event was conducted in an open and supportive atmosphere, promoting free exchange of ideas and collaborative discussion of relevant social issues.
This initiative directly aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In particular, it supports SDG 5 – Gender Equality, by empowering women and girls and promoting equality within educational and social environments. It also contributes to SDG 4 – Quality Education, enhancing students’ legal, social, and communicative competencies. Additionally, the event corresponds with SDG 16 – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, fostering a culture of lawfulness and civic responsibility.
The stand-up evening “Strength Through Laughter” demonstrated how a creative approach can integrate educational and developmental objectives. It helped strengthen female students’ intellectual, social, and emotional potential, reinforced their active role in society, and promoted a culture of rights awareness and self-respect. The university continues to systematically support initiatives aimed at advancing gender equality, legal literacy, and sustainable development among youth.
