5 march, 2026

As part of one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals – SDG-4 «Quality Education», Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) hosted an expert strategic session titled “Academic Management and Education Quality: Intensive for Leaders and Faculty”. The event aimed to introduce modern generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools into the educational process, redesign courses based on a competency approach, establish a transparent and effective assessment system, and enhance academic management. Additionally, the session addressed the implementation of unified quality standards at the faculty and department levels, the promotion of professional ethics in teaching, and constructive conflict resolution in educational settings.

The session was held in a parallel format covering several directions, including process management in educational activities, course redesign using GenAI tools, dual education and micro-credentials, and teaching ethics and conflict management. The university’s faculty members actively participated in the workshops “Redesign–2026: Course Development Using GenAI Tools” and “Teaching Ethics and Conflict Management”. During the practical part, teams were formed that developed a full educational-methodical package for one course based on the university-provided syllabus template.

Using generative AI tools (Gemini, chatbots, and other programs), participants prepared an updated course syllabus, lecture content, seminar lesson plans, student independent work assignments, and a final exam program. Traditional materials and AI-assisted versions were compared, analyzing content quality, structural advantages, and time efficiency.

The “Teaching Ethics and Conflict Management” workshop emphasized professional conduct in education. It covered academic integrity, faculty-student professional communication, fair assessment practices, equal opportunity principles, classroom psychological climate management, and prevention and resolution of conflicts. Participants analyzed real case studies and practiced conflict management skills through role-playing exercises.

Faculty members of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology also took an active part. In particular, the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry faculty members Askar Bahadur, N.S. Dalabaeva, L.K Myltykbaeva,  L.M. Tugelbayeva and B.D. Balgysheva, shared experience and conducted practical work on competency-based course redesign.

The strategic session demonstrated the university’s systematic approach to improving education quality. The responsible and informed integration of generative AI tools into the learning process is a key requirement of modern higher education. Such initiatives not only update course content but also foster academic management culture and create a modern, effective educational environment.
