Guest Lecture on Global Logistics at KazNU
The speaker of the meeting was Arutyun Gabrielyan, Logistics Director at Halyk Market, a practitioner expert with more than 16 years of experience in e-commerce, 3PL, and retail. Throughout his professional career, he has been engaged in the development and transformation of logistics systems, led the creation of last-mile networks and fulfillment operations in five CIS countries, built logistics infrastructure from scratch, and brought projects to sustainable profitability. Among his professional achievements are reducing delivery costs by up to 50%, shortening delivery times by three times, as well as improving service indicators and the overall efficiency of logistics processes. Over the years, he has worked with such major companies and platforms as AliExpress, Ozon, and Halyk Market.
During the lecture, modern approaches to understanding global logistics as a key element of the world economy were discussed. The speaker emphasized that logistics today is not merely a combination of transportation and warehousing operations, but a comprehensive system of supply chain management that determines business resilience, service quality, the efficiency of international trade, and the competitiveness of national economies. The presentation outlined the levels of logistics globalization - from local to global - and also presented practical aspects of building logistics models in different countries and regulatory environments.
The students showed particular interest in the real case studies presented by the speaker on organizing logistics processes in the CIS countries, developing last-mile networks, and interacting with 3PL operators, marketplaces, and government institutions. In particular, a practical case of building a unified logistics model for five countries with different regulatory conditions but common KPIs was examined. Students’ attention was also drawn to key logistics performance indicators, including SLA, CPO, OTIF, and PC2D/C2D, as well as to issues of scaling logistics networks, automation, AI planning, supply chain diversification, and improving the resilience of logistics systems. Special attention was paid to the future of global logistics. According to the speaker, the development of the industry today is directly linked to automation, AI planning, supply chain diversification, and increasing the resilience of logistics systems.
The lecture became an important platform for professional dialogue between a business representative and students. The participation of an expert of such caliber allowed students to gain insight into current logistics trends, see the practical application of theoretical knowledge, and better understand the industry’s requirements for future specialists. The event also contributed to the development of practice-oriented education and strengthened cooperation between the university and the professional community.
