Important academic issues for HSEB doctoral students discussed
A meeting of doctoral students was held at the Higher School of Economics and Business of the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi, timed to coincide with the beginning of the new academic year. During the meeting, the process of doctoral studies, requirements for research and key aspects of academic policy were discussed.
The meeting was chaired by the acting dean of the faculty, G.R. Daulieva, who congratulated the doctoral students on the beginning of the new academic year. She made a report on state standards of postgraduate education, the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Education", the code of honor of a student of the Kazakh National University named after al-Farabi, and the main provisions of academic policy.
Deputy Dean of the HSEB, Zh. Zh. Ermekova, provided comments on the procedure for conducting scientific research in doctoral studies, the rules for awarding academic degrees of Doctor of Science, the procedure for preparing a dissertation, as well as the requirements for foreign and domestic scientific supervisors of doctoral students.
Important information for doctoral students
During the meeting with doctoral students, the following important issues were raised:
✅ It is necessary to carefully read all regulatory and procedural documents.
✅ If a doctoral student has completed a master's degree in an unrelated specialty, he or she must contact the dean's office and submit an application for the submission of prerequisites.
✅ Doctoral students must prepare three folders: for UPANK, for the faculty, and for personal use.
✅ It is important to choose a research topic in advance and agree on it with domestic and foreign consultants.
✅ After determining the topic and scientific supervisors, the university must prepare transcripts of the department meeting and the Academic Council meeting in three languages.
✅ In the first semester, you must develop a research proposal and the first part of the literature review.
✅ Scholarships for doctoral students will be issued on People's Bank cards for a period of two months at the end of October.
Procedures for scientific research work
The research work of doctoral students consists of the following stages, calculated over a three-year period:
🔹 Year 1 (Graduation Seminar – 6 credits)
Defining the research topic, goal, objectives, hypothesis and methodology
Justifying scientific novelty
Conducting a literature review
🔹 Year 2 (Graduation Seminar – 6 credits)
Conducting theoretical and empirical research
Evaluating research results
🔹 Year 3 (Expulsion – 15 credits)
Publishing an article in an international peer-reviewed scientific journal is mandatory.
If a doctoral student does not publish an article or does not receive a letter of acceptance, he/she will not be certified for 15 credits.
Doctoral students were informed about the need to actively participate in research, publish articles in international scientific journals and complete dissertation research on time.
