PhD Student of the Department of Chinese Studies Completed a Research Internship in China

From April 17 to May 15, 2025, second-year PhD student of the Department of Chinese Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Zhazira Kurbanali, completed a scientific internship at Northwest University in Xi’an (PRC) as part of an international academic program.
During the internship, she collaborated with leading scholars at the Silk Road Research Center of the university and became familiar with advanced scientific methods and innovative approaches to solving research problems. Under the guidance of her foreign academic advisor, Professor Shao Huiqiu, she received valuable theoretical and methodological consultations and had the opportunity to develop her professional and research competencies.
With the support of her supervisor, Zhazira took part in two academic seminars, which significantly contributed to enhancing her research qualifications.
She participated in a scientific seminar organized by the Silk Road Archaeological Research Center on the topic "Promoting Kazakhstan-China Joint Archaeological Research," where she presented findings from archaeological excavations relevant to her research and emphasized the importance of this field of study.
Together with her academic mentor, she also attended a seminar at the library of the Shaanxi Institute of Archaeology on "Nomadic Culture in the Early Iron Age of Asia" and gave a presentation titled "The History and Study of the Issyk Royal Burial Mound." Leading Chinese scholars participated in the event, and current academic trends in the field were discussed.
The internship helped Zhazira not only deepen her theoretical knowledge but also significantly develop practical research skills. She had access to the university's rich library and research centers, which allowed her to expand her academic resources and prepare materials for publication in international journals.
In addition, she gathered extensive materials related to her research topic from libraries, archives, and reputable Chinese websites. Participation in lectures, seminars, and conferences contributed to broadening her academic perspective and strengthening her research expertise.
