The modern economy is undergoing rapid transformation, where innovation and creativity are becoming key drivers of sustainable growth. Technology commercialization plays a particularly important role in this process, as it links scientific achievements and engineering developments with practical solutions that can be applied in business, industry, and everyday life. It encompasses the full cycle of turning ideas and inventions into marketable products, services, or processes that generate commercial value.
The creative industry is one of the most dynamic sectors of the economy. It brings together a wide spectrum of fields — from design and media to architecture, fashion, cinematography, and information technologies. By integrating innovative technologies with cultural and creative content, this sector produces unique products and services that not only meet user demand but also shape new trends and cultural values.
The interaction between technology commercialization and the creative industry opens the door to synergy among science, business, and culture. The application of advanced technologies in the creation of creative products and services contributes to developing new forms of audience engagement, increasing company competitiveness, and creating new markets and job opportunities.
However, the process of technology commercialization in the creative industry is accompanied by a number of challenges. These include identifying effective monetization models, protecting intellectual property, accessing financing, and developing infrastructure to support innovation. In this regard, innovation hubs, universities, and specialized centers play a crucial role in building an ecosystem that supports startups, designers, artists, and engineers.
Thus, technology commercialization in the creative industry is not only an economic phenomenon but also a social one. It shapes a new reality in which innovation and creativity form the foundation of sustainable development.
To effectively introduce scientific developments and innovative ideas into the commercial environment, the Center for Technology Commercialization and Creative Industries was established on September 15, 2021, by Decision No. 5 of the Board of Directors as a structural subdivision of “Al-Farabi Kazakh National University” JSC. The Center supports entrepreneurs and researchers at all stages of the innovation cycle — from idea generation to bringing a finished product to market.
The main areas of the Center’s activity include:
- Commercialization of RNNTD (scientific and technical) projects
- Startup projects and business incubation
- Creative industries
