“Examining Current Social Issues from a Legal Perspective: Discussion Outcomes”
On November 24, 2025, the members of the “El Tutka” debate club, together with the club leader Tlepbergenov Orynbasar, held an in-depth discussion of the topics raised in the “Law and Order” program aired on the el.kz channel. In the program, the lawyer and host Orynbasar Tilepbergen addressed two socially significant and widely debated issues, which became the main focus of our discussion.
The first topic concerned the issue of bride kidnapping. In some communities, such actions are mistakenly perceived as part of tradition; however, according to current legislation, this act is classified as a crime violating a person’s freedom. During the discussion, participants examined the conflict between tradition and law, the reasons behind the misinterpretation of these concepts, and the legal consequences of such violations. Based on the real cases presented by the lawyer in the program, relevant legal articles were analyzed, the rights of the victim were explained, and mechanisms of protection were clarified. Participants emphasized the importance of legal literacy and society’s awareness of the criminal nature of such actions.
The second major topic was the fight against drug-related offenses. This issue poses a serious threat not only to individuals but to society as a whole. During the discussion, participants examined the destructive consequences of drug addiction and trafficking, as well as resonance cases recently covered in the news. Relying on the explanations from the program, the group analyzed applicable legal provisions, the types of legal responsibility involved, and the current efforts of law enforcement agencies. Participants highlighted that countering drug-related offenses requires a comprehensive approach, including prevention, public awareness, and joint efforts by society and the state.
Throughout the discussion, special attention was given to understanding how the law operates, the importance of knowing one’s rights, and strengthening overall legal culture. The meeting allowed students to gain a deeper understanding of socially pressing issues and view them through a professional legal perspective. It was emphasized that legal norms are not merely written rules but effective instruments aimed at ensuring public safety and justice.
This event became a meaningful and valuable experience for the “El Tutka” debate club. Participants expanded their legal knowledge, strengthened their professional mindset, and recognized the importance of improving legal awareness within society. The discussion contributed significantly to the development of legal thinking and a conscious attitude toward legal matters.
