6th International Student Olympiad in Mechanics and Machine Science (SIOMMS 2025)
The 6th International Student Olympiad in Mechanics and Machine Science (SIOMMS 2025) was held on November 26–28 at Satbayev University (Almaty, Kazakhstan). The Olympiad brings together students of technical specialties and focuses on solving problems in kinematics, dynamics, mechanism design, and robotics. Previous editions were held in Izhevsk (2011), Shanghai (2013), Madrid (2016), and at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.
The opening ceremony featured leading scholars in machine science and robotics:
– A.K. Tuleshov, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Vice-President of the National Engineering Academy of Kazakhstan;
– E.G. Krylov, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor of Izhevsk State Technical University;
– S.K. Shalabayev, Vice-Rector of Satbayev University.
Participants were offered eight tasks covering theoretical and practical aspects of mechanism analysis and synthesis. Four hours were allotted for the solutions, each participant worked individually, and the team score was determined by summing individual results.
Teams from China, Spain, Romania, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan took part in the Olympiad. Kazakhstan was represented by Satbayev University, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, M.O. Auezov South Kazakhstan University, and the U.A. Zholdasbekov Institute of Mechanics and Machine Science. The event served as a platform for experience exchange and the development of international cooperation in engineering education.
The team of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University won 3rd place. The team included students of “6В05403 - Mechanics” and “6В07110 - Robotic Systems”: Yesen Yelzhas, Zhakai Nuray, and Baktybayev Diyar. From IMMash, the participants were Botai Amandyk, Nalibek Ramazan, and Kirillov Oleg. The students were trained by the faculty of the KazNU Department of Mechanics — B. Yespayev, E. Savelyev, and E. Temirbekov.
The Olympiad program included the opening ceremony, tours of Satbayev University laboratories, the announcement of results, and a trip to the Shymbulak mountain complex. The organizers also announced that the next Olympiad will be held in China — at the Weihai campus of Shandong University, where the official website will be published soon.
