On 19 December 2025, the academic staff of the Department of Recreational Geography and Tourism, in cooperation with the Kazakhstan Tourism Association, conducted a joint training aimed at promoting tourism education among the residents of the city of Almaty.

The event was organized within the framework of implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). The university pays special attention to working with the local population, enhancing tourism literacy, and involving citizens in the sustainable development of the tourism and hospitality industry.

During the training, participants discussed key challenges facing the hospitality industry, including human resource development, service quality, and the role of tourism education in strengthening the competitiveness of the sector. Special emphasis was placed on the fact that tourism is a form of intercultural communication, as it involves continuous interaction with international visitors and requires a high level of professional, linguistic, and communicative competencies.

Particular attention was given to the importance of information support and promotion of tourism, which plays a crucial role in economic development, shaping a positive image of the country and its regions, and attracting tourist flows. These issues are in line with the priorities outlined in the Address of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which highlights the strategic importance of developing the service sector, human capital, and effective communication as key drivers of sustainable economic growth.

The joint training served as an important platform for dialogue between the academic community, professional associations, and local residents, contributing to the popularization of tourism education, raising public awareness of the industry, and strengthening the role of tourism as a strategic sector of socio-economic development.
