Partnership for Sustainable Development: An International Meeting at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics
A working meeting dedicated to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was held at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics. The meeting was attended by the Dean and Vice Dean of the Faculty, Zh. M. Bektemesov and R. F. Sabirova, the Director of the Center for Geoenergy and the Director of the French Center, Agnes Bousset, French language instructor Nastia Wawrzyniak, who works under a grant from the French Alliance, as well as students and master’s students from leading universities in France — Estelle Valérie Charlet, Claude Christian Panithan Foucaud, and Renaud Le Gall-Rousset.
During the meeting, priority areas of cooperation in the context of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals were discussed, in particular SDG 4 “Quality Education”, SDG 7 “Affordable and Clean Energy”, and SDG 12 “Responsible Consumption and Production.”
Special attention was paid to issues related to ensuring quality education and developing international educational programs. The participants discussed the prospects for implementing a double-degree master’s program “Mechanics and Energy”, jointly delivered with the University of Lorraine, as well as opportunities to expand academic mobility for students and master’s students.
In addition, the meeting addressed practical measures for developing waste separation and sorting systems, improving energy efficiency, and saving electricity and heat in educational and research buildings. A separate session focused on the development of green energy and geoenergy technologies within the framework of the master’s program in “Mechanics and Energy.”
Following the meeting, the parties expressed their interest in further strengthening international cooperation and implementing joint educational and research initiatives aimed at achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, as well as organizing SDG-related activities for students, particularly on waste separation and the conservation of heat and electricity.
The meeting served as an example of the implementation of SDG 17 “Partnerships for the Goals,” aimed at strengthening international cooperation between educational and research institutions. The interaction between faculty representatives, the French Center, academic staff, and students from leading French universities promotes knowledge exchange, the development of joint educational programs, and the implementation of initiatives in sustainable development, green energy, and quality education.
